Job 1
Choose three African animals from this list:
  • crocodile
  • gorilla
  • okapi
  • pelican
  • black rhino
  • cheetah
  • elephant
  • giraffe
  • lion
  • leopard
  • spotted hyena
  • zebra

 

Your teacher has printed off an Animal Facts outline for you. Write the names of the animals on the outline to help you remember your choices.  Look at the websites listed below to learn about your three animals. Fill in the information about your three animals with a pencil.

Job 2
Now that you have your three choices, study each animal carefully. Look at pictures so you know what each animal looks like. Right-click on a picture of your animal and click Save As. Then click the drop-down arrow to find your folder in the Elementary Computers folder, name your picture whatever the animal is and click Save.

You have a page for the riddle book saved in your folder. Open it up, delete the blank lines, and fill them in with information about your animal. Be sure that your sentences end with periods . When you are done keying in the information, print off your page. Click Save. Insert a picture of the animal on a new page. Don't forget to write the animal's name above its picture using Word Art. Click Save As and name it your animal's name. Find your elementary computer folder and click Save. Print your picture.

Job 3
Using Microsoft Word, open a new document and write a paragraph about at least one of your animals describing the following: physical characteristics (including what it looks like and its size), habitat, diet, behavior, and any other interesting facts. You may use the Animal Facts outline that you completed. Insert a picture of your animal and include a title and your name at the top. Save your document in the elementary computer folder under your name. Print off your document.

Job 4
Click on the link Animal Heights at the top of this page. Drag your mouse over the entire table to select it. Right click on it and choose Copy. You will use the computer to make a graph of the information you just found. Open up the program Excel and right-click in the first cell at the top and click Paste.  While it is still selected, go to the Insert menu at the top of the screen and choose Chart. Click Next twice. Change the box for Chart Title to say African Animals and click Next. Click the little circle by As A New Sheet and click Finish. Then go to the View menu at the top of the screen and choose Header and Footer. Click Custom Footer. In the Left Section key your name. Go to File and Save and name it Heights and save it in your elementary computer folder. When you are finished, print the graph to show your tour group.
